Why wait for him when I can just join him on the road?
I was born in the Turkish coastal city of Trabzon.
After finishing my education, I joined the banking sector. I worked in banks for 15 years and then became an account manager for our family company.
But in 2017, I was introduced to the world of logistics after meeting my husband.
I spent the first six years of our marriage waiting for my husband, a truck driver, to return home.
Over time, the situation started to become difficult. While looking for a solution, I asked my husband, “why don’t I travel with you?”
My husband then approached his employer about the possibility of me joining him on the road. His boss was very supportive about the idea but informed him that I needed to first get my truck driving licence and qualifications.
So after passing the necessary exams and getting my truck licence and professional qualifications, I started working in trucking, at the age of 53!
I am very thankful to my boss, Mehmet Dilmen, the owner of Transbatur Logistics, for his support.
My Husband and I have now been working together for a year. My dear husband’s professional support has been a huge advantage. Of course, our pet son Rocky is also always with us.
As a child playing with trucks instead of dolls, I would have never thought that one day I would become a truck driver!
Every profession has its difficulties, but there is nothing that we cannot achieve as a woman if we really want to.
