Transport development for sustainable development

I have 16 years of project management experience working for international development organisations, including 10 years at the Asian Development Bank.

During this period, I have implemented transport, trade facilitation and logistics projects in Central and West Asia.

Since 2013, I’ve been a transport and trade facilitation focal point for the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) programme. CAREC is the cooperation platform of 11 developing member countries and multiple development partners.

I have also been cooperating with IRU since 2009.

Under the USAID Trade Liberalization and Customs Reform project, I helped to organise and finance regional capacity development activities and studies on road transit operations under the TIR guaranty system, UNECE Transport Agreements and Conventions, and the application of digital tachographs in international road transport operations in Central Asia.

In 2012, I supported IRU in conducting a logistics and supply chain training for trainers of Central Asian national road transport associations.

Since 2013, under the CAREC framework, I have continued promoting best operating practices in road transport and contributed to strengthening the TIR system in Pakistan.

I am currently mainly focused on reducing border crossing hurdles.

I continue to serve as the Asian Development Bank project team leader for Pakistan’s Regional Improving Border Services project to modernise borders at Torkham and Chaman, establish the Pakistan Land Port Authority, and strengthen the Pakistan Single Window.

I am also working on new projects in Kyrgyzstan, Georgia and Azerbaijan to modernise existing border crossings and to establish a new greenfield joint border crossing.
