At the coveted biennial Expo Movilidad, IRU discussed key decarbonisation, digitalisation and driver shortage challenges and opportunities with leading bus and coach companies, manufacturers, suppliers and public authorities.
IRU member CANAPAT hosts Expo Movilidad every two years in Mexico City. As in years past, the latest buses and coaches and state-of-the-art technologies and equipment from 130 suppliers were on display.
IRU Senior Adviser for the Americas Martin Rojas, who provided opening remarks, said, “Whether it be in Mexico or globally, the sector is facing three paramount challenges: decarbonisation, digitalisation and driver shortages.
“But all three of them also provide opportunities to make the bus and coach sector safer, more efficient and greener. As I’m sure we will see, part of the solutions to these challenges are the new technologies and systems that are exhibited and demonstrated at Expo Movilidad.”
“IRU would like to congratulate CANAPAT, especially its President Jose Lucio Rodriguez and Executive Director Elim Luviano, for their efforts in making Expo Movilidad a great success. We look forward to continuing working with CANAPAT and other members in the Americas to support the road transport industry in finding solutions to shared challenges,” he added.
IRU also participated in events on fleet modernisation and their financing, as well as the need to clamp down on informal and unregulated operators. Mexico's bus and coach sector boasts one of the largest fleets globally, providing over 3.75 billion passenger trips per year.
In addition to bringing together leading bus and coach manufacturers, service providers and operators, Expo Movilidad was attended by Miguel Torruco Marques, Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism, Rogelio Jiménez Pons, Mexico’s Undersecretary of Transportation, and Nohemi Muñoz Benitez, the Director of DG Autotransporte Federal.
