IRU joins drive to realise Belt & Road ambitions

15 May 2017

During IRU President Christian Labrot’s participation at the Belt & Road Forum in China, he met with the Development Research Center of the State Council (DRC) to discuss China’s road transport potential for boosting international trade in the region – with TIR key to facilitating growth.

DRC introduced the Belt & Road Initiative’s six trade corridors and encouraged IRU to increase the visibility of TIR in the country, with the possibility of joint research initiatives and workshops.

Sharing the findings of the recently released UIBE Study on TIR benefits, Christian Labrot demonstrated the capacity of TIR to streamline customs and border procedures to enable unimpeded trade.

IRU also confirmed intentions to join the Silk Road Think Network (SiLKS) hosted by DRC – an international network of think-tanks, international organisations, and institutions, dedicated to realising Belt & Road ambitions and sustainable development through knowledge-sharing and calls to action.
