With an initial focus on defensive driving and crash prevention, the National Logistics Corporation (NLC) looks to raise road safety levels across Pakistan.

The driving school of IRU member NLC has joined the IRU Academy as its newest Associate Training Institute (ATI).

NLC driving school instructors are now equipped to deliver the IRU Academy Defensive Driving and Crash Prevention Programme.

IRU Secretary General Umberto de Pretto said, “We are already working with our member NLC on optimising trade and transit in the region with the TIR system, with NLC being a pioneer in opening new trade routes. We are delighted to now also partner with NLC on certification and standards, helping them elevate road safety standards in Pakistan and beyond.”

NLC Director General Maj Gen Farrukh Shahzad Rao said, “We are very pleased to join forces with IRU on road safety. We are eager to work with the IRU Academy to improve road safety standards. Pakistan’s road transport sector is full of untapped potential, with the right formalisation and professionalisation development, we can unleash that potential.”

“IRU’s Defensive Driving and Crash Prevention Programme is an invaluable tool to equip both our new and seasoned drivers with internationally recognised road safety standards. Through this programme, we are confident in our ability to reduce accidents and foster safer transport operations across Pakistan,” he added.

NLC’s Director General also highlighted how the programme will help Pakistani professional drivers in working abroad, with the training significantly raising the knowledge and expertise of drivers being trained at NLC’s driving school.

IRU’s Defensive Driving and Crash Prevention Programme is designed for all professional drivers, both new and experienced.

The programme covers why commercial vehicle crashes happen, what sets professional drivers apart, how to manage the surrounding environment and vehicle, how to monitor speed and distance, how to manage attention and fatigue levels, and the future of vehicle safety.
