IRU showcases how vehicle innovation will impact transport efficiency and safety at a high level conference in Saudi Arabia.
Over 2,000 global supply chain experts took part in the 2nd Supply Chain and Logistics Conference, organised by the Ministry of Transport of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Riyadh.
IRU delivered a keynote address spotlighting the impact of vehicle innovation on the road transport industry. The speech focused on the massive disruption vehicle automation will have on the sector, and how the industry needs to prepare for this transformation.
The Conference also highlighted the value of TIR as the global customs standard, while calling for essential reforms to government structures and regulations, and underlining the importance of public-private partnerships.
The Conference builds on the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 - a strategy to transform the country into a logistics hub for Asia, Europe and Africa. Red Sea container traffic is currently 27% of total global container movements, and Saudi Arabia’s share is 15% of that. This is poised to grow significantly by 2030.
Alongside the Conference, TIR is set to launch in the near future in Saudi Arabia, boosting trade and driving innovation both nationally and regionally. TIR’s contribution to trade and transit in the Gulf Cooperation Council region will be a lead topic at IRU’s 2018 World Congress on 6-8 November in Muscat, Oman.
