First interactive workshop on computerisation of TIR

27 Jan 2017

The computerisation of TIR moves ever closer with a workshop in Vilnius today to highlight the significant benefits of real-time data availability, online monitoring and improved reliability.

Participants unanimously agree that rapid implementation of a computerised TIR system is crucial for the very existence of the TIR Convention and will benefit all TIR contracting parties.

On the invitation of Lithuanian National Road Carriers’ Association (LINAVA) and in partnership with Lithuanian customs authorities, this important workshop is the first regional event to disseminate information to enable decision-makers to take action. It is also an interactive brainstorming for all stakeholders to devise the most constructive framework for implementing a computerised TIR system.

Joined by partners from the EU and EU bordering countries in the northern region, the workshop underlines the purpose of TIR computerisation to harness the advantages already offered by IRU digital transit tools, together with computerised customs procedures.

The successful results of the first eTIR pilot transport operations between Turkey and Iran are also on the agenda for the workshop.
