Newly admitted TIR operator, Maersk Oman, has successfully completed its first transport under the TIR system.
Supported by Oman Customs and Mwasalat Oman, the national TIR guaranteeing association, three containers with panel supply accessories from India were transported under TIR, via the port of Salalah, through to their final destination 600 km north in the Duqm Free Zone.
The TIR international guarantee chain eliminates the need for traditional bank guarantees, complex refund processes and therefore helps supply chain operators optimise cash flow management.
With the Sultanate of Oman recently introducing a VAT (value added tax) regime, the TIR international guarantee is set to play a crucial role in reducing the financial burden for transport operators moving goods in transit.
