IRU is thrilled to be one of the founding partners of the winning consortium for the EU-funded TRACE 2 (Transport Regulators Align Transport Enforcement) project. This is a fundamental EU project for the effective enforcement of Mobility Package 1 rules. Our key partners in the project are ETF, the European Transport Workers Federation, and CORTE, the Confederation of Organisations in Road Transport Enforcement.
TRACE 2 follows the successful implementation of TRACE1, in which IRU was also involved. TRACE 1 aimed to clarify and harmonise the enforcement of the EU rules on driving and rest time, as applied before Mobility Package 1.
The new Mobility Package 1 rules on driving and rest time rules became applicable in August 2020. The new rules on the posting of drivers came into force on 2 February 2022, and the new rules on the access to the profession and to the road freight market, on 21 February 2022.
TRACE 2 aims to develop a clear and shared understanding of the new rules introduced in the Mobility Package 1, in relation to these topics. This will be done by developing clear and appropriate educational material and by training control officers on the enforcement of the new rules.
The training material will be distributed to all stakeholders in the road transport sector, including operators and drivers, with the clear objective of improving the compliance with Mobility Package rules.
