IRU announces the appointment of Ms Raluca Marian, currently Senior Advisor on Passenger Transport in its Brussels office, to the position of General Delegate of the IRU Permanent Delegation to the EU. Mr Matthias Maedge, the current EU General Delegate, will take up the position of Advocacy Director, leading IRU’s advocacy work worldwide from the Geneva headquarters.
“I am delighted that Raluca and Matthias will team up to drive our advocacy objectives in the EU and worldwide. I look forward to boosting our prosperity, people and environmental goals together,” said Secretary General of IRU, Umberto de Pretto.
“After having worked in Brussels for over 10 years, I am delighted to take up a new challenge and congratulate Raluca on her appointment as General Delegate. Raluca has been instrumental in making the voice of our passenger transport members – including over 300,000 bus, coach and taxi companies in the EU – heard more strongly. She will play a key role in engaging with the new European Commission and Parliament to pave the way for a prosperous future for our logistics and mobility members,” said Matthias Maedge.
“The challenges and opportunities that lie ahead of us with digitalisation and decarbonisation are unprecedented and our sector will play a pivotal role in shaping the road transport system towards 2050. With new political leaders joining the discussion, it is vital to have honest and fact-based conversations,” added Raluca Marian.
With these two appointments, both effective 1 January 2020, IRU seeks to boost its presence at both the global and European levels and better serve its members as the voice of the road transport industry.
