Accelerating C-ITS Mobility Innovation and Deployment in Europe

Cooperative intelligent transport systems (C-ITS) is a field of study making significant progress in recent years with several projects, including CO-GISTICS and Compass4D, demonstrating the development of new technologies which can be deployed for road transport efficiency gains.
C-MobILE links together the technologies deployed in CO-GISTICS and Compass4D, in order to support a large-scale deployment of C-ITS across Europe.
C-MobILE  aims to support cities in selecting and deploying the C-ITS solutions that respond to their specific mobility needs.
A series of C-ITS applications will be tested across Europe in eight pilot cities and regions and for specific use cases.

IRU's role

A partner in both CO-GISTICS and Compass4D, IRU brings into the C-MobILE project its expertise as well as the perspectives of C-ITS end users: professional drivers and road transport operators.  In the development of training sessions, IRU highlights the needs of drivers and operators while providing C-ITS solutions for its members.

“The deployment of C-ITS services at a large scale carries significant benefits in terms of safety, sustainability, efficiency and improvement of air quality. Cooperative smart traffic technologies are developing fast and we need to make sure that the industry is ready to embrace this progress and make use of its full potential.” Oleh SHCHURYK, Manager – Research & Innovation

Project results

The project will define an interoperable architecture for C-ITS solutions. C-ITS services will be grouped under four bundles – urban efficiency, infrastructure-to-vehicle safety, traffic efficiency and vehicle-to-vehicle safety – which will be available for cities to use and tailor according to their regulatory and traffic needs.

Webinars and training sessions will be developed for different categories of users including traffic managers, city authorities and transport operators and professional drivers.
