Showing solidarity for all the people affected by the crisis in Ukraine, the drivers, workers and companies of the logistics sector are going the extra mile to get basic humanitarian necessities to affected regions.
Round the clock, voluntary and humanitarian actions from the road transport sector are making sure essential goods keep moving, sometimes across long distances, to reach those most in need.
There are many examples, often in cooperation with IRU members, in addition to the ones we have mentioned in recent days. Here are a few.
The International Turkish-Ukrainian Business Association has drivers taking to the road through the middle of the night to transport goods from Turkey to Ukraine.
From the other side of Europe, Irish hauliers are collaborating with Ireland’s largest pallet distribution network, TPN, to collect essential goods and ship them from Ireland to a distribution centre in Poland.
Another Irish company, Hyland Transport, is also appealing for donations of essential goods to be shipped by road to Ukraine, the call being put out via IRU member IRHA.
IRU members in the UK, including Logistics UK and the RHA are organising action and information to help British trucks get aid through to Ukraine.
Closer to Ukraine, the Polish foundation Herotrucker is connecting humanitarian organisations with drivers willing to help, going to the Ukrainian border and then further as humanitarian channels open inside Ukraine.
Know of any actions, programmes or campaigns in road transport to help get goods through to Ukraine or to transport refugees? Let us know and we will feature them in our news and on our social media channels.
