The first TIR movement has taken place between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, opening a new TIR corridor between the two countries.
Transport operator EFS Logistics, IRU member the Saudi Automobile & Touring Association (SATA) and Saudi customs worked together with IRU to make this operation a success.
A container filled with furniture from China arrived at King Abdulaziz Seaport, Saudi Arabia, where it was loaded onto a TIR truck. The truck then crossed Al Khafji land border into Kuwait to arrive safely at its destination.
On this key trade route, TIR reduces transport times by almost 30% and costs by up to 40%. These time and cost savings will boost trade and economic development in the Gulf Cooperation Council region and beyond.
As a tried and proven trade facilitation tool recommended by the UN, TIR will also support economic recovery in the region following the COVID-19 pandemic.
