Oman has ratified the e-CMR protocol, helping the country switch from paper-based to electronic consignment notes. This move towards fully paperless road transport operations will cut costs for transport operators and improve the efficiency and safety of goods transport.
As the first country in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region to ratify the protocol, Oman is spearheading digitalisation efforts. Further digitalisation will facilitate regional and international trade, which is essential to economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The use of digital tools, such as those based on the e-CMR protocol as well as eTIR solutions, will also help transport operators to respect health measures and contain the spread of the virus by reducing human contact at borders as well as dispatch and delivery points.
