The European Commission identified sustainable urban transport as a priority issue and therefore, created an expert group on Sustainable Urban Transport Plans (SUTP) which delivered its final result on a potential EC Directive on SUTP implementation in all Member States. As a response to the report, the IRU calls on the Commission to consider among others, the link between economic and transport growth, new technologies for more efficient road transport, and to develop an interactive policy for consultation with stakeholders from the road transport industry and others from the trade and tourism sectors, as well as with local authorities and their administration. The IRU is committed to sustainable development and will support EC initiatives on any strategy or urban transport planning if based on the IRU 3 “i” strategy.
