With reference to the agreement, to be issued at a later date, for the compulsory use of digital tachographs in newly registered vehicles, the IRU stresses that proper consideration should be given to the efforts undertaken by the road transport industry to comply with the deadline, especially in unprepared EU Member States. The IRU requests EU authorities to take all necessary steps to ensure that disruption to road transport operators is limited to the greatest possible extent, and that fully compliant operators from Member States should not be hindered when travelling to countries where enforcement bodies are not fully trained or equipped to manage the digital tachograph.
