Since the 1 May 2006 when the digital tachograph became compulsory within the EU in all new vehicles covered by the Driving and Rest Time Rules Regulation (561/2006/EC), numerous problems connected to its technical specifications and its practical usage have been identified by transport operators and national associations. To solve these problems a revision of the Regulation and its Technical annex is required.
