IRU Position on retro-reflective contour marking of vehicles, (2005)
While supporting all measures that improve road safety if they are cost effective, the IRU declares that any decision to impose retro-reflective contour marking of vehicles would be premature as the main causes of accidents are still unknown. This position recommends completing the joint IRU-European Commission accident causation study and disregarding the methodology of the current EC study based on the CARE database which is considered unreliable by the IRU.
