Institutional partners

IRU has partnerships with international organisations such as the United Nations, regional bodies such as the EU and GCC, and development institutions such as the World Bank.

These partnerships centre on proposing, developing, negotiating and implementing new standards, rules, laws and best practice models that enable transport to be safer, greener and more efficient.

A notable example is the TIR system for cross border freight transit, since 1949 the UN’s longest continuously running public-private partnership.

Why become an institutional partner?

Built on IRU’s 75+ years of credibility and results in advancing commercial road transport and its crucial role in economic and social development, IRU’s institutional partnerships cover global and regional intergovernmental organisations and major development banks and agencies.

They leverage IRU’s member network, representing more than 3.5 million companies operating transport services in all global regions, and extensive expertise on how the sector works and how it contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
