The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will soon become the latest country to accede to two UN conventions for the carriage of goods and for transporting dangerous goods (CMR and ADR) respectively.
UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan issued a federal decree this week to formalise the country’s accession to the conventions.
This latest development for improved logistics in the region highlights the dynamic road transport landscape across the Middle East – which will take centre stage at the IRU World Congress, to be held in Muscat, Oman from 6-8 November.
Habib Turki, IRU’s Regional Adviser for the Middle East, highlights the focus in a number of Gulf Cooperation Council countries on becoming global logistics powerhouses.
Zeljko Jeftic, IRU’s lead on global innovation and strategic partnerships for the World Congress emphasises, “the event is the platform for global leaders to exchange ideas, debate solutions and define the future of the industry. It will also offer a forum to demonstrate the benefits of innovative digital solutions. We welcome all service providers to showcase their latest solutions.”
