Commercial road transport plays an irreplaceable role in today’s globalised economy, and yet is responsible for only 3% of total CO2 emissions, as underlined by the UNFCCC in 2006. Nevertheless, in this IRU Resolution, the entire road transport industry pro-actively commits to reduce its CO2 emissions by 30% by 2030. This Resolution also calls upon road transport suppliers, such as vehicle and tyre manufacturers, data communications and energy providers as well as the competent authorities, to further help the road transport industry to meet this goal, by investing in innovative engines and latest vehicle technologies and by focusing on fuel-efficient driver training and innovative logistics concepts such as ITS.
